Could You Foster?

Unlike most careers, eligibility to become a foster parent is not based on experience. That’s because all the training you need is provided on the job. So, if you are 21 or over, have a spare bedroom and the legal right to work in the UK then that’s a great place to start your application with us. It doesn’t matter if you’re over 55, single or in a rented property, you are still able to apply.

More than 80,000 reasons to become a foster parent

Currently there are over 82,000 children in care in the UK. Every child deserves a stable and caring home, join us in making a real difference in their lives. At Anchor our drive and commitment is to change lives. As well as everything you’d expect from a fostering agency, we offer comprehensive training, financial reward and support, so we can help more families make a difference to children and young people all over the UK.

Why Anchor?

There are many different reasons why foster parents transfer from other agencies to Anchor. However, one of the most popular reasons cited to us over the years is the high level of support we offer to our foster parents. In fact, we pride ourselves on offering more support and better training than a standard Independent Fostering Agency.

As a not-for-profit organisation, our primary focus isn’t on profits but instead the re-investment of high-quality foster care. Offering 24/7 support, comprehensive training, and individualised care plans, our goal is always to ensure the very best outcomes for both foster parent and child.

Your Anchor Fostering Journey Starts Here!

Fostering a child is one of the most rewarding things you can do. We’re here to support you on that journey, every step of the way.
The road to foster parenthood needn’t be daunting, but we also appreciate the process can appear overwhelming, so that’s why we are here to offer support. We also understand that deciding to become a foster parent may take time, and that’s why our team is experienced in providing support, whatever stage you’re at. So, whether you’re ready to start your application or if you’re just interested to find out more, the best thing to do is to start by clicking the 'find out more' button, completing the form and our friendly team will make contact for a no obligation chat.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much can you earn?

Earn up to £1,200 a week plus priceless rewards. We offer generous financial support because we know being a foster parent is a big job that deserves huge recognition.

Who will assess me?

After you apply, you will be allocated a dedicated social worker (also known as a Form F Assessor) who will support you throughout the assessment process.

Do I need anything before applying?

It’s a good idea check your eligibility and discuss the decision to foster with any loved ones, before you formally start the process.

Does it cost me anything to apply?

No, it is completely free to apply with us.

What happens at the fostering panel?

The panel is essentially a group of people who will ask a series of questions. Often these are to clarify details within your report. It is not an interview. An assessor can talk you through this stage beforehand.

What references will you carry out?

We will carry out several checks including seeking references, evidence of citizenship and a health review. A full list will be provided to you after you apply.

Can I transfer if I'm already fostering another child?

Yes, you can transfer at any time. A transfer meeting at the beginning of the transfer process will ensure a smooth process for both parent and child/young person.

Is all the training face to face?

We offer a variety of training styles to suit a range of learning types. These include online and face-to-face training courses as well as group and individual sessions. If you’d like to know more before a course starts, please contact us.

How long does the training take?

Depending on the type of training you’re participating in, the time can vary. Most courses are a couple of hours, others can be longer. Please contact us for specific details.

What if I can't make a course?

We always work with parents to ensure we find a time that is suitable, however, if you find you cannot make a course, please contact the team who will work with you to make alternative arrangements.
